Hathurusinghe quits as Bangladesh coach”

He had once already moved to resign in October past year, but the BCB had not accepted his resignation as Hathurusingha was convinced to continue.

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Nazmul Hassan has revealed that head coach Chandika Hathurusingha sent a letter stating that he wanted to resign during the national team's recently concluded tour of South Africa.

"I received a letter from him saying that he does not want to continue", the BCB president said.

Samaraweera was under Hathurusingha as the Bangladesh Batting Coach before moving to the Sri Lanka coaching setup. He only said he wasn't interested anymore. He showed me offers from other countries. "It is hard to say without talking with him why he wants to leave or whether it is a better offer, family issues or something else".

"We felt it was not appropriate to speak about this [resignation letter] during a series", Hassan said. Now we are trying to communicate with him. "Yes, we will talk to him later this month and see if there is something that can be done".

"We can not keep someone who does not want to stay", Hassan added. "He is a professional and what happened all of a sudden that he needed to quit is something we need to find out". Suddenly he gives us a letter and is sitting quietly in Australia. "He lets us know if something is bothering him but during the [South Africa] series, he didn't communicate with us".

It is however yet to be clear whether the Hathurusingha regime with Bangladesh cricket is truly over as Hassan deemed it an emotional decision. He also mentioned that if Hathurusingha didn't want to stay, there was little point convincing him to.

Since he replaced Australian Shane Jurgensen in 2014, Bangladesh have also reached the quarter-final of the World Cup in 2015 and won one-day global series against Pakistan, India and South Africa in the same year. I am just giving an example. "I can not actually say anything until I talk to him". "I sat with him and the players a number of times, asking them why they lie in the media".

Hassan ruled out the theory that Hathurusingha is using his resignation letter as a bargaining chip. "Money isn't an issue".
