Honda Sports Vision Gran Turismo is the Baby NSX We Can't Have

Honda Sports Vision Gran Turismo is the Baby NSX We Can't Have”

So if you play Gran Turismo Sport, you can get an idea of how a mid-engine Honda sports auto of the future may drive right now. All we can hope is that the Honda Vision Gran Turismo eventually makes it into production in the real world. The two-seater, mid-engine sports auto is powered by a 400 horsepower version of the automaker's 2.0-liter turbocharged VTEC engine, which is sent to the rear wheels via an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission. And while it may not be quite ready for the showroom, it looks a lot closer than most of its virtual-reality stablemates.

The Japanese manufacturer held an in-house design competition across its studios worldwide, with the team from Los Angeles coming on top. The Vision project is a way for manufacturers to create awesome in-game cars, unconstrained by cost or even the laws of physics - but the latest offering from Honda is one we'd really like to see make it to production. The top speed will have to be discovered by GT Sport customers when the next patch update is released to accommodate the Honda Sports Vision GT into the PlayStation 4 game. Honda utilised the human-centred design philosophy used on the NSX to mould the Sports Vision GT's shape, hence the similarities between the two.

The prospect of designing a vehicle for the famous racing simulator was one Honda welcomed according to Tsuyoshi Matsuhashi, chief officer of design management, saying "this is a project for Honda".

The automaker put some serious effort into the development of this concept, performing aerodynamics simulations in the wind tunnel, just as it would do for a real-life vehicle.

Honda has had plans for a "baby NSX" sports auto for a while, hinting at a mid-engined replacement for the long-departed S2000.

Vision Gran Turismo concepts often take on proportions of the outlandish: Le Mans prototypes, almost, without any regulations or practical considerations to take into account.

Does this virtual concept get your approval?
