Industrial output rises 3.8 per cent in September”

For the April-September 2017 period, factory output growth stood at 2.5 per cent, official data showed.

Mining production grew 7.9 percent in September from 3.1 percent in the same month previous year. This apart, India's core sectors grew by 5.2 per cent in September.

The general index for the month of September 2017 stands at 122.7, which is 3.8 percent higher as compared to the level in the month of September 2016.

Consumer durables output contracted 4.8 per cent in September, against 1.6 per cent in the previous month.

According to the use-based classification, growth rates in September 2017 came in at 6.6 per cent for primary goods, 7.4 per cent for capital goods, 1.9 per cent for intermediate goods and 0.5 per cent for infrastructure/construction goods compared to the past year.

Some important items showing high positive growth during the current month over the same month in previous year include "separators including decanter centrifuge" (117.4%), "bodies of trucks, lorries and trailers" (94.5%), and steroids and hormonal preparations (including anti-fungal preparations). Consumer non-durables grew 10 percent, from 0.1 percent a year ago. Coal Sector registered highest growth posting 10.6 percent growth year-on-year, followed by petroleum refinery at 8 percent, natural gas at 6.3 percent and electricity at 5.2 percent.

"The momentum of post-GST restocking recorded in August 2017 did not sustain in the subsequent month, despite the impending festive season".

The August production growth was revised up to 4.5 percent from 4.3 percent reported initially.

She also said that weak print for infrastructure/construction goods is unsurprising.
