Iran provided capability for missile attacks from Yemen: US Air Force”

A missile that was shot down last week as it approached Saudi Arabia's King Khalid International Airport had Iranian "markings", the top United States Air Force official said, supporting Saudi charges, the Associated Press reported Thursday. The projectile, which was downed near the airport of the Saudi capital bore "Iranian markings", according to Harrigian, who added that an investigation was underway into how it was smuggled to Yemen despite the Saudi naval and air blockade. "To me, that connects the dots to Iran".

Saudi Arabia, part of a coalition carrying out bombings of the Iran-allied armed Houthi movement in Yemen, has frequently intercepted missiles fired from its neighbour.

Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Abdullah al-Mouallimi, told Asharq Al-Awsat on Thursday that a committee tasked with following up on UN decisions was now investigating the Iranian ballistic missiles in the framework of updating violations against UN Resolutions, adding that the Saudi side awaits the results of the probe.

Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir said in an interview on CNN on Monday that Riyadh sees the missile attack as "an act of war".

Harrigian didn't identify the type of missile-believed to be a Borkan 2h-used in the attack or how Iran evaded the blockade to get it to the Houthis.

French president Emmanuel Macron described the missile fired at Riyadh as "obviously" Iranian during a visit to Abu Dhabi this week. "That in itself provides evidence of where it came from". Still, the episode has pushed the decades-old animosity between Iran and Saudi Arabia to a unsafe point.
