Mark Zuckerberg says, Technology doesn't create Jobs, but it does increase pay”

Mark Zuckerberg is coming to Kansas.

Zuckerberg also gave a plug to the renewable energy industry in a state usually associated with oil and gas production.

The CEO of the massive social media network described Oklahoma as "oil country". As part of his visit to Duncan, Zuckerberg was exploring the relationship between technology and job creation.

The results, he said, were mixed.

Mark Zuckerberg says technology doesn't necessarily create more jobs but does improve the pay of workers who get re-trained to take advantage of innovation in their industries. However, employees need more training to operate the advanced technology and get more pay.

In a Facebook post published on Wednesday, the billionaire entrepreneur wrote that during his visit to a wind project outside Duncan - NextEra Energy Resources' Rush Springs Wind Energy Center - he learned from workers at the facility that Oklahoma is "on track to become the nation's second-biggest producer of wind energy behind Texas"; that "working in wind energy is a more sustainable lifestyle than oil and gas", even though Oklahoma is still the third-biggest natural gas producer in the USA; and that wind is providing high-paying jobs.

Zuckerberg argued that, unlike oil, jobs in wind energy are more "consistent and sustainable", as the resource is infinite.

Facebook is one of a growing number of tech companies that have signed contracts to meet all their power needs from renewable energy sources.

Zuckerberg said he would be here to do a live discussion about what he learned this year.

The DREAM Act - an acronym for Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors - is a legislative proposal first introduced in 2001, and re-introduced as recently as 2017, that could create a pathway to conditional and permanent residency for qualifying minors.
