Neptun Werft lays the keel for Spectrum of the Seas

The keel laying ceremony for the first block of the new cruise ship Spectrum of the Seas was held at NEPTUN WERFT, MEYER WERFT said in its press release.

Workers at the Neptun Werft shipbuilding facility in Rostock, Germany lowered the first of dozens of massive steel blocks that will make up the vessel into a building dock. Royal Caribbean International's fourth in the Quantum series is also the first in a new Quantum Ultra design.

The keel-laying signifies the beginning of the ship's physical construction. Measuring 168,666 tons a piece, they are tied for fifth among the world's largest cruise vessels and can hold almost 5,000 passengers a piece. Royal Caribbean took delivery of the similar sister ships Quantum of the Seas, Anthem of the Seas and Ovation of the Seas in 2014, 2015 and 2016.

The ship will specifically be designed for guests in China and the Asia-Pacific region, and will feature cutting-edge and unprecedented experiences and amenities.
