Prosecution will seek death penalty for men accused of killing pregnant teacher”

LOUIS, Mo. _A former St. Louis middle school principal accused of paying a friend to kill his pregnant girlfriend will be tried as a death penalty case, the St. Louis Circuit Attorney's office announced this afternoon.

In court filings in the cases against both men, prosecutors said the murder of Jocelyn Peters, 30, was "outrageously or wantonly vile, frightful or inhuman in that it involved torture or depravity of mind", quoting one of the statutorily required aggravating factors for the death penalty. Green was charged with first-degree murder in October 2016. In the filing, prosecutors call the murder of Jocelyn Peters "outrageously or wantonly vile, terrible or inhuman". "What we do know is Mr. Green did send Mr. Cutler through the mail $2,500 cash".

Jocelyn Peters was seven months pregnant when she was killed in the Central West End on March 24, 2016.

The St. Louis Circuit Attorney says the murder trial of Cornelius Green is now officially a death penalty case. Peters was a third-grade teacher at a SLPS grade school. The documents also reveal that Cutler's cell phone was near Peter's apartment the night of the murder.

Green is the former principal at Carr Lane Visual Performing Arts School.
