Qualcomm signs up to $12bln deal with China's top smartphone brands”

The high-stake visit of USA president Donald Trump to China has recorded positive results today as the United States smartphone chip maker Qualcomm announced non-binding memoranda of understanding (MoU) with three of China's top smartphone makers: Xiaomi, OPPO and vivo.

The agreements were signed during a ceremony in.

Qualcomm CEO Steve Mollenkopf was part of President Trump's Department of Commerce Trade Delegation to China, that included executives of leading American companies.

China's smartphone makers have been gaining momentums over the past few years not only in domestic but also the global market.

The agreement was part of an over $250 billion package of deals unveiled between US and Chinese firms during Trump's first state visit to China.

Qualcomm said it has been supporting the Chinese mobile ecosystem for nearly 25 years and continues to expand its investments in China, establishing a number of branches, joint ventures and research and development centers in Guizhou, Shanghai and Shenzhen, among others. Qualcomm already has a very good relationship with most Chinese smartphone firms, including OPPO, Vivo, and Xiaomi, and the company says that the deal will further solidify their relationship.
