Cardinals lose DJ Humphries, Tyvon Branch, Ifeanyi Momah for season

Cardinals lose DJ Humphries, Tyvon Branch, Ifeanyi Momah for season”

The Arizona Cardinals will be without safety Tyvon Branch for the rest of the season.

The injuries came three weeks after quarterback Carson Palmer broke his left arm and was placed on injured reserve. Humphries has an MCL injury and a dislocated kneecap that will require surgery. The recovery from MCL surgery is less intensive and doesn't take as long.

Entering Week 10, Branch was leading the Cardinals in tackles and the top tackling safety in the NFL. He was playing at that level. After the game, Cards coach Bruce Arians said all three men might end up on injured reserve and miss the rest of the season.

Arians said Jared Veldheer will likely switch back to left tackle, the position he played his entire career before moving to the right side this season. John Wetzel, who received Arians for his play, will move to right tackle. He suffered the injury while covering Jimmy Graham on his first touchdown Thursday night. "He used to be a jokester, now he's serious as heck and he's about his craft and it's just a shame for these young guys to put so much in after an injury and then get injured again". But since his return in Week 6, he's been consistently solid and Arians said he saw a new Humphries.

Momah has a broken leg and may need reconstruction on his ankle, Arians said. "It's just a shame".

Asked whether the short week-and two games in five days-played a factor in the team's latest injuries, Arians didn't hesitate.

"I've always felt that, but it's not going away", Arians said. "You have to deal with it, but there are some major injuries in that game, on both sides".

Despite losing Humphries for the season, his diagnosis was a relief to Arians, who initially believed that the offensive tackle had suffered an ACL injury. At 4-5, Arians said it's imperative to keep pushing forward.
