Trump foreign aide claims he lied to Federal Bureau of Investigation to protect president”

George Papadopoulos reportedly lied to FBI agents out of loyalty to President Trump, according to ABC News, citing a source "with direct knowledge" of the special council's Russian Federation investigation.

George Papadopoulos, the former Trump campaign aide who lied to the Federal Bureau of Investigation about the extent of his contacts with Russian officials during the 2016 presidential campaign, is reportedly feeling betrayed by President Donald Trump. ABC reports that Papadopoulos deceived investigators because he was trying to stick to Donald Trump's line that the notion of collusion with Russian election interference is all "fake news". According to the court documents, Papadopoulos offered to set up a meeting between Trump and Vladimir Putin during the campaign.

Trump has been very vocal about denying a connection between his campaign and Russian Federation. He added, "It's phony stuff".

A short time later Papadopoulos met with Federal Bureau of Investigation agents about the alleged links and later admitted he had lied during that meeting, the network news reported.

"In truth and in fact", the filings read, "the professor only took interest in defendant Papadopoulos because of his status with the campaign". But according to ABC News, Papadopoulos made trips to several countries and met with ambassadors and foreign officials where he was introduced as Trump's advisor.
