Aircraft Carriers to Conduct Rare Exercise in Sea of Japan

Aircraft Carriers to Conduct Rare Exercise in Sea of Japan”

Trump met with Japan and South Korea officials early last week.

In a fresh show of force, three USA aircraft carriers, accompanied by South Korean warships, launched a joint naval drill yesterday.

In this image released by the U.S. Navy, the aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson, flanked by South Korean destroyers, from left, Yang Manchun and Sejong the Great, and the U.S. Navy's Wayne E. Meyer and USS Michael Murphy, transit the western Pacific Ocean Wednesday, May 3, 2017.

The three carriers will be likely together in the drills around Monday, according to a South Korean military official, who didn't want to be named, citing office rules.

They will aim to enhance combined operation and aerial strike capabilities and also display 'strong will and firm military readiness to defeat any provocation by North Korea with dominant force in the event of crisis, ' Seoul's military said in a statement.

A total of seven South Korean navy vessels, including Aegis-equipped warships, will participate in the drill, the statement said, to accompany 14 USA naval warships.

The North Korean spokesman, though, said nothing would strop Pyongyang from pursuing its nuclear weapons program. The Aegis technology refers to missile tracking and guidance.

The U.S. carriers also participated in separate exercises with three Japanese destroyers on Sunday.

The report blasted Trump over his speeches critical of the North Korean regime at the South Korean National Assembly and his visit to USA military bases in South Korea.

It is the first such USA triple-carrier drill in the region for a decade.

North Korea is not known to have tested any of its missiles or nuclear devices since September 15, a relative lull after a brisk series of tests earlier this year.

"The U.S., under my administration, is completely rebuilding its military, and they're spending hundreds of billions of dollars to the newest and finest military equipment anywhere in the world, being built right now".

President Xi Jinping, where he called on China to "act fast" over North Korea.
