Huge 28kg baby baffles doctors

Huge 28kg baby baffles doctors”

Luis Manuel Gonzales weights a mind-boggling 28kg.

Mom Isabel Pantoja, 24, from Colima, Mexico wasn't anxious about her son's weight gain at first but the baby now dwarfs his brother Mario who is almost three years older.

At birth Luis weighed 3.5kg (8lbs), about the same as his brother Mario, who is nearly three but is now dwarfed by his baby brother.

Lius' family is now facing several difficulties raising the child as the doctors have considered giving him hormonal treatment, which include injections that cost $555 per shot, despite his father earning just $200 per month, Daily Mail reported.

Understandably spooked, they started a Facebook page and bank account with the aim of raising funds to care for him.

Experts fear Luis Manuel may have a disease called Prader-Willi Syndrome - which leaves children with an insatiable appetite.

Isabel Pantoja (C), 24, holds her ten-month-old baby Luis Gonzales as they arrive at a clinic in Colima city for Luis' medical check-up, in Mexico on November 9, 2017.

Family members take it in turns to push him to his 4-times-a-week hospital appointments in a battered old push-chair.

Speaking about their search for answers, dad Mario Gonzales said: "It hurts to watch the nurses search among the rolls of fat on his arms for a vein".

And despite lots of study and examination, no one really knows what is wrong with this baby boy.

The disorder can also cause heart problems and delays in development of the brain and genitals.

But now the 10-month-old weighs more than Mario after putting on more than 54lbs.

The day of his first vaccine he weighed 10 kilos, she said.

But even with up to four hospital visits a week, no one has been able to reach a definitive diagnosis.

Isabel Pantoja, 24, holds Luis as they head towards the hospital for his medical check-up in Mexico on November 9, 2017. He tried to put things in his mouth, like other babies.

He appears happy and giggled throughout an interview with his parents, but he is unable to walk or crawl - he can only sit upright.

Ten-month-old Luis Gonzales and his mother Isabel Pantoja, 24, are pictured at their home in Mexico.

Orozco believes that Luis's problems could have been caused by a lack of certain nutrients in his mothers diet while she was pregnant.

His mum said she is exhausted by carrying him so much, and she fears his life his in danger.

The family's plight came to the attention of Silvia Orozco, a surgeon specializing in nutrition who took an interest in the case.

If so - pending the results of tissue samples being done in the U.S. - he could be helped with a different kind of hormone shot that would kick-start his metabolic glands.
