Jerry Jones won't stop fighting owners in Roger Goodell talks

Dallas Cowboys owner/general manager Jerry Jones said it's "laughable" and "ridiculous" to suggest that National Football League owners could force him out as the team's owner.

According to the New York Times, the owners who make-up the NFL's Compensation Committee, have sent Jerry Jones a cease-and-desist letter telling him to stop his efforts to block Commissioner Roger Goodell's contract extension.

Appearing on 105.3 The Fan (h/t Roy White III of Shan and RJ), Jones said, "I've had not one inkling of communication with the league office or any owner that would suggest something that laughable and ridiculous".

Jones was given the warning by a half-dozen members of the owners' Compensation Committee on Monday, after a committee conference call.

According to the Times, the league has several forms of punishment it could levy against Jones, including fining and/or suspending him and, potentially the most damaging, docking the Cowboys draft picks.

Jones also said that it is not true that he has a person in mind to replace Goodell. "We need to slow this train down".

Jones had no issue giving the OK to go ahead with an extension for Goodell in May, but that was before the Ezekiel Elliott suspension and Jones' criticism of Goodell's leadership regarding player protests during the playing of the national anthem.
