Mahindra launches updated Scorpio at Rs 9.97 lakh”

As expected, the Mahindra Scorpio facelift was launched in Indian markets today with price starting from Rs 9.97 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).

Mahindra and Mahindra on Tuesday, November 14, announced the launch of its much-awaited the Scorpio facelift in India. The most significant improvement comes in the form of a more powerful engine.

Although the motor under the hood of the 2017 Mahidnra Scorpio facelift remains the same 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine driving the Scorpion since long, it comes paired with a 6th generation Borg Warner Turbo charger, which Mahindra claims "makes the drive peppy and responsive". "I firmly believe that the consumers will find the New All Powerful Scorpio a flawless companion for their thrilling and adventurous journeys", he added.

Prices of the 2018 Scorpio facelift start at Rs 9.97 lakh.

The 2017 Mahindra Scorpio facelift will be available in variants as follows - the S3 base trim with mDCIR engine producing 75 bhp, S5 and S7 variants with mHawk engine doing 120 bhp max power and 280 Nm max torque, and lastly the top-end S7 and S11 variants with the tuned mHawk engine dishing out 140 bhp max power, 320 Nm max torque. Peak power and torque are also produced at lower revs now, the 140PS is produced at 3750rpm as opposed 120PS at 4000rpm, while 320Nm is on offer from just 1500rpm as opposed to 280Nm from 1800rpm. The transmission is handled by either a six-speed torque converter or a five-speed manual gearbox.

From the sides, you hardly see any major updates, but the two mentionable changes include the new alloy wheels and ORVMs. A 6-speed automatic is optional. It will continue to feature the Mahindra Micro-Hybrid tech as before. The suspension has been tweaked to handle the additional power output as well, while brakes have been revised and Mahindra claims brake force has improved thanks to the use of new brake pads and bigger brake boosters. The stylish new radiator grille has been added to the rear front of the auto. Mahindra now also offers faux skid plate for both front and rear bumper. The taillamps get a red-tint and the rear door misses out on the black plastic cladding. The alloy wheels are also new.

The cabin has also gone through some considerable changes and now instead of the side facing jump seats, you get a proper bench seat for the third row and that too with a centre armrest. There's also faux leather wrap on the steering wheel and gear lever of top-end variants. A bigger roof-mounted spoiler and a revised bumper is also part of the updates. Other than this, there's nothing new here, really. However, the 2018 Mahindra Scorpio facelift is a really minor nip and tuck job.
