Maronite cardinal hopes to meet Lebanese PM in Saudi Arabia

Maronite cardinal hopes to meet Lebanese PM in Saudi Arabia”

The Lebanese prime minister announced his resignation following visits to Saudi Arabia. Hariri has not commented publicly on whether he is free to come and go as he pleases.

The Nov. 4 resignation triggered a political crisis in Lebanon, along with rumors about whether Hariri was under house arrest or being coerced to quit.

Asked by reporters about Iran's reaction to Saudi Arabia's possible provocative moves against Lebanon, Qassemi said, "We can not speak on the basis of assumptions".

"Lebanon's President Michel Aoun called on Riyadh to clarify the reasons preventing Prime Minister Hariri from returning to Lebanon to join his relatives, people, and supporters", according to the statement issued on Saturday.

After two years of a devastating war, the Houthis still control much of Yemen's north while the south falls under the embattled President of Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi, whose government is recognized by the worldwide community and who is supported by the Saudi-led coalition.

"I am not against Hezbollah as a party, I have a problem with Hezbollah destroying the country", Hariri said during the interview.

Saudi Arabia said on Monday that the Saudi-led coalition fighting rebels in Yemen will begin reopening airports and seaports in the Arab world's poorest country, days after closing them over a rebel ballistic missile attack on Riyadh.

The resignation also comes less than a month after he announced plans to join a coalition government with Hezbollah.

The United States, France and Britain have all expressed strong support for Lebanon's stability and sovereignty.

"We will carry these concerns to the king and crown prince and wish well", he said. "But for there to be a political solution in Lebanon every political official must have total freedom in their movements". He repeatedly drank water, finishing his glass and asking for more, prompting Yacoubian to hand him her own glass of water. On Twitter, some Lebanese shared clips of the video and wondered if the man in the back had some kind of message for Hariri, fueling reports that the prime minister was being held against his will. Hariri and the interviewer, Paula Yacoubian, realized the moment was caught on camera.

Asked why Hariri was wearing the same suit for three days, he said: "I said I'm not responsible for his closet". "He is always welcome there and he will continue to be welcome there".
