Microsoft brings online payments to Skype Professional Account”

Following a recent redesign that brought photo filters and a Snapchat Stories clone to Skype, it seems that Microsoft hasn't forgotten Skype's roots as a "prosumer" app. Due to launch in the United States as a preview very soon, this is a business-focused build of Skype that offers a host of extra features. Microsoft's new Skype Professional Account will allow such users to do all these tasks from one app. Microsoft will release a Skype Professional Account desktop client in the United States soon and it will be available for free during the preview period.

The target user base here, as Microsoft points out, is business owners who may provide services like tutoring, consulting, or music lessons over Skype.

This includes the ability to book meeting, make notes and take payments, all from the comfort of a chat client.

In their November 13 blog post about the coming Skype for Professional service, Microsoft officials didn't elaborate on what the branding, time management, payment and other related tools that will be part of the bundle will be. Skype Professional account is just a new Skype client designed for all service providers conducting their online business on Skype, helping them be more efficient with the benefit of having a professional identity on Skype. This is a notable move for Skype, as it continues its evolution into a sort of cross between Facebook and Google (in terms of how it's looking to connect customers with small businesses). "We've added an enhanced profile page to help improve your online presence and a dedicated website for your small business right in Skype, the team explained".

In the longer-term, Skype will likely charge Professional users for the privilege of using the turbocharged app, but during its early-stage preview it will be completely free to use.
