Qoma says he was shocked by Koko's rise at Eskom”

Eskom spokesman Khulani Qoma on Tuesday said he was told earlier this year by the utility's acting board chairman Zethembe Khoza that Public Enterprises Minister Lynne Brown had been "captured" by the Guptas.

"She lies and she lies".

"The problem here is the minister".

"It is clear that the suspension of the four executives was not predicated on noble intentions, but to pave the way for Koko to become GCE so as to effectively execute the capturing of Eskom", said Mr Qoma.

"Unless the Parliamentary inquiry into allegations of malfeasance at state owned companies gives those who have been accused of wrongdoing the opportunity to explain their actions it will serve no higher function than advancing political agendas and further undermining the economy", she said.

"She lies and she lies". This Minister needs to sit here and account because this mess would not have been possible if she was a capable minister.

Citing Fin24, commenting on the time the Minister lied about Eskom's payments to Trillian in Parliament, Qoma said: "The minister lied because she used that information from Eskom". The relationship between the chairman and the former CEO could be illustrated, he said, by Ngubane's decision to drop in on him to see how he was doing after he was forced out of the company shortly after Brown allowed him to return as CEO.

"Fast forward and she did not do anything. But she routinely tells the citizens that she was lied to or something to that lousy effect", he added. "She put her head down and hoped everyone would forget".

He added: "You have to be totally lost to realise this is unacceptable for a minister".

According to Fin24, the Dentons investigation, which saw a variety of executives suspended from the parastatal in 2015 - including suspended executive Matshela Koko - Qoma said the investigation excluded terms of reference that would have held Koko guilty.

Qoma said Khoza then switched to Zulu and added that the board members were so young that they looked like school children. He believed it was totally out of place for Brown to have approved Koko's appointment. "There were media reports that suggested he was corrupt", he said. A worthy leader creates capacity for due diligence so as to increase prudent leadership.
