Yankees Rumors: NYY to Interview Aaron Boone, Hensley Meulens; Bob Melvin Denied

The Yankees won't hold any managerial interviews while the front office here at the Waldorf Astoria for the 2017 MLB General Managers Meetings.

The New York Yankees have added two former players to their list of candidates to be the next manager.

But that hasn't stopped some news of their plans from slipping out.

Hensley Meulens will interview for the Yankees' managerial vacancy, the Daily News has confirmed.

Aaron Boone celebrates after hitting the game-winning home run in the bottom of the 11th inning against the Boston Red Sox during Game 7 of the American League Championship Series on October 16, 2003 at Yankee Stadium. Spending the first five of those go-rounds in pinstripes with the Yankees, he then suited up for both the Montreal Expos and the Arizona Diamondbacks before his big league tenure came to an end back in 1998. He has been with ESPN as an analyst since his retirement following the 2009 season.

Serving as the San Francisco Giants bench coach under the direction of manager Bruce Bochy, Meulens is a former major league outfielder and notably spent seven seasons atop the highest level. Also, Ken Rosenthal says the Yankees asked the Athletics for permission to interview their manager Bob Melvin, but the A's said no.

The team also was interested in talking to ex-Tigers manager Brad Ausmus, but was told he'd prefer to take a year off managing, according to FanRag's Jon Heyman.
