Media group to host 'Come Meet A Black Person' networking event”

"With your help - diverse actors, filmmakers, writers, movie lovers, our members and supporters - we are inviting non-black people to put aside any pre-conceived notions about the black community and bring an open mind to our "Come Meet A Black Person" Networking Event," the organizers noted.

A 2014 study from Robert Jones of the Public Religion Research Institute (PRRI) showed that a whopping 75 percent of white people do not have black friends or any other friends outside of their own race.

A black organization is hosting a Georgia networking event on Thursday to help white people become friends with non-white people. The 2013 report also revealed that for the majority of White Americans, their social circles only consist of other Whites.

"It blew me away because as a black person you kind of know most white people don't have black friend, but to actually see a number, that quantifies it", said Moses.

What Moses and Urban MediaMakers hope to accomplish is more than have the cliched "conversation on race", which everyone talks about having, but rarely have.

She wasn't sure Tuesday how many people had signed up for the event, which is meant to celebrate the organization's 16th anniversary, but said she's gotten a lot of positive feedback after it was featured by several news outlets. It will also include a cultural scavenger hunt aimed at enlightening guests about the Black community.

"It's a great opportunity to start relationships", she said.

People who are angered by the event's theme don't understand what she's trying to do, she said.

One woman told Moses the title pretty much stopped her in her tracks, but then the woman "totally got it" when she read why they were holding it.
