NCAA reverses decision, NC State's Braxton Beverly eligible to play”

When longtime head coach Thad Matta walked away from the school this summer, the move screwed over Beverly, who had already started taking classes at OSU (which is normal for many top recruits).

On Tuesday, the NCAA informed NC State that it had not only met the threshold that the information was new, but that the denial decision had been reversed to allow Beverly to play immediately.

Scott Tompsett, Beverly's attorney, released a state that said the freshman is "absolutely thrilled" by the NCAA's decision.

The NCAA has declared freshman guard Braxton Beverly eligible to compete for the NC State men's basketball team for the 2017-18 season. Beverly is expected to debut tonight in the Wolfpack's game against Bryant. "He is very grateful". Even though the cases were unrelated, the message was clear: Paper classes were fine but going to summer classes was a cardinal sin. N.C State's waiver to bypass the undergraduate transfer rule was denied the NCAA in October and the school's appeal was also denied. An NCAA spokesman did not immediately return a message seeking comment. He should contribute off the bench at NC State because of his outside shooting and ability to create coming off ball screens. However, Beverly then hired a lawyer and submitted a final request for reconsideration to the NCAA, resulting in his immediate eligibility. Both Matta and Smith have expressed support for Beverly throughout this process.
