Peru Gets Day Off If Team Makes World Cup

Peru Gets Day Off If Team Makes World Cup”

Peru assistant coach Nestor Bonillo, center, talks with Peru's players during a practice in Lima, Peru, Monday, Nov. 13, 2017.

Reid took gentle umbrage at the question, and reminded the room of Peru's long World Cup drought.

After a 0-0 draw against New Zealand in the first leg of the playoff, Peru is favored to win the second round in Lima, qualifying for the World Cup finals in Russian Federation next year.

Peru is trying for its first berth since 1982, and its fifth overall.

The game kicks off at 3.15pm tomorrow New Zealand time.

"We know we'll get chances, whenever we go away from home - Japan, Mexico, USA - we've always scored and we're a better team than we were back then".

It hopes to join four other South American teams that have already qualified for next year's tournament: Brazil, Argentina, Colombia and Uruguay.

The All Whites say they will be in no hurry to score a goal in their intercontinental play-off second leg against Peru.

Farfan, who plays his club football for Russian outfit Lokomotiv Moscow, will be Peru's chief attacking threat in the absence of Paolo Guerrero, who is provisionally banned for failing a doping test.

Coach Anthony Hudson and Reid faced a huge posse of local media in the pre-match press conference, with nearly 100 journalists in the room.

The streets in the Peruvian capital are all decked out in the red and white of the team's colors.

The Kiwi team was greeted by loud and proud fans at Estadio Nacional de Lima.
