Texas A&M reportedly plans to gauge FSU coach Jimbo Fisher's interest

Texas A&M reportedly plans to gauge FSU coach Jimbo Fisher's interest”

The coveted Jimbo Fisher.

Texas A&M still has a head coach in place with embattled sixth-year coach Kevin Sumlin, but USA Today reported Tuesday that the school is preparing to inquire about Fisher's interest for when Sumlin is fired at the end of this season.

Citing sources, the report says Fisher's relationship with A&M athletic director Scott Woodward, dating back to their time at LSU, is key here.

However, Fisher did secure a national title in 2013 and led the Seminoles to three ACC titles in a row from 2012-14.

Sumlin and the Aggies aren't doing terribly this season - they have compiled a 6-4 record and are 3-3 in conference play, but that isn't necessarily good enough in the competitive SEC West.

Still, there are signs of distress in Tallahassee. After a home loss to Louisville last month, Fisher confronted a Seminoles fan who heckled him about his coaching staff.

Texas A&M recently opened a new $20 million football facility and spent $485 million on renovations to Kyle Field.

Last November The Advocate reported that LSU decision-makers used Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher's talked-about candidacy as a ruse to quietly negotiate with Herman and stay ahead of the University of Texas in the chase for the 41-year-old hotshot, but the potential deal fizzled after reports on Thursday night exposed a plan the Tigers had kept shrouded for days. Fisher has said in the past that remaining close to his family is important.

Rumors of Fisher's departure have become a near-annual event, with LSU reportedly kicking his tires on multiple occasions. reported in October that the Aggies would have real interest in Fisher once they chose to make a change from Sumlin.
