SNYDER Was Almost Fired Before JUSTICE LEAGUE

SNYDER Was Almost Fired Before JUSTICE LEAGUE”

Bad acting combined with poor dialog equals; I am not sold on his solo film coming out next year. It will be interesting to see how DC handles the potential introduction of Green Lantern, reintroduction of Lex Luthor, and potential addition of many other supervillains into the extended universe, especially considering they only have five films over the 2018-2020 span and the Justice League sequel does not have a date attached to it.

Snyder played a formative role in developing the DC cinematic universe that has some of the most dedicated fans - and critics - in genre entertainment. I don't mind that as much as I hated the character and thought he was too lowbrow for this kind of film. This is the Justice League of my childhood, and seeing some of my absolute favorite characters of all time finally together in their first live-action film together just nearly made me forgive all its flaws.

Now had Snyder's vision of the DC universe actually been universally accepted, this would be great, but with the negative reviews piling up, Silverman's "remarkably laissez faire" attitude to the filmmaker was troubling some studio heads. Unfortunately, most of their backstories are just merely touched upon, and they never go fully in depth with these three.

As for the new cast though, Ezra Miller and Jason Momoa were perfectly cast as the Flash and Aquaman respectively. Ezra Miller as The Flash nearly stole the whole movie for me. He was the standard comic relief character, but Miller has so much charm and charisma in his performance, you couldn't help but love him.

That's unsurprising considering actors involved in Man of Steel and Batman v Superman - including Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill and Gal Gadot - have gone on the record to say the same thing. Nearly all of their scenes seemed like they were pulled straight from their respective source material and wonderfully put onscreen. The film just merely only mentions their origins with a passing comment or they are presented with only a very short sequence about them. The era of grittier, moody superhero movies that he became famous for belong to an era of Warner Bros. past; the lighthearted, funnier tone set by Jenkins and Whedon represents the films of Warner Bros.' future. There was also the studio mandate to Whedon to keep the film under two-hours to avoid the bloat of BvS, which meant even more time in the editing room. Also, Steppenwolf is a decent villain. His motives are clear, but I was hard pressed to really care about him.

Making matters worse, with Justice League's 40 percent "Rotten" rating on Rotten Tomatoes, over 132,000 fans (though those numbers have been called into question) have since signed a petition calling on Warners to release Snyder's "director's cut" on home video.

If you can look past the technical issues which plague the film, you are undoubtedly sure to have a fun time with it. Most people are only going to this film to see the Justice League in action together, and it more than delivers on that front.

Without giving away too much, I would say that this was a successful adaptation of what has been some of the more successful comic book runs in history. My overbearing nostalgia and love for these characters nearly made me forgive its flaws.

I really enjoyed all the action moments, not a single scene of the movie was boring what so ever.

After the colossal success of "Wonder Woman" earlier this year, "Justice League" just about continues DC's hot streak, but if some improvements were made, it could have reached the level "Wonder Woman" came to. Whedon was brought in to lighten up Justice League and make it less bleak. With that predictable plot summary, all you really need to know is that things end well, with the finale not as grossly boring as usual, mainly because between our four super heroes and one heroine there are enough quips for all, and more than enough gimmicks, to make up for the tiresome roar of Steppenwolf.
