Atiku In Closed Door Meeting With Makarfi”

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar is now in a closed door meeting with the caretaker national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Ahmed Makarfi, at the national headquarters of the Party in Abuja.

Meanwhile, barely four days to the national convention of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP; there are indications of fresh moves by the Forum of Northern Elders and Leaders to push for the emergence of a chairmanship aspirant of South- West extraction.

According to reports, members of the National Caretaker Committee of the PDP, led by Senator Ahmed Makarfi, had been informed of Atiku's visit.

While speaking on the circumstances of Atiku's defection to the PDP, Makarfi said the former vice-president never asked for any special concession, nor did the party offer him one before his return to the party.

Ojo, an All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain in Osun State, said those who were castigating Atiku for dumping the APC for PDP did not understand Nigerian politics.

He said, "We have had a lot of discussions concerning the need for accreditation, securing the venue and also the electoral process".

He explained that Atiku, however, did not seek any concession or special terms before returning to the party, adding that the former Vice-President returned voluntarily to the party. "When we receive it, then the needful will be done", Makarfi stated. Whatever aspirations he or anybody coming to PDP may have, they will be free to pursue them. "The party will provide a level playing field for everybody to exercise their right to give their mandate to whoever they want to give it to".

Mr Fabian Onah, the PDP Chairman in Nsukka LGA described Atiku return to PDP as a welcome development, saying that Atiku having tested PDP and APC had known that PDP is better.

The chairman of the PDP Convention Planning Committee, Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, warned 2019 presidential aspirants and their agents against displaying their posters at the convention.

"We will continue to remain transparent and dedicated to the service of this party", the statement said.

Okowa said only members of the committee, accredited delegates and the media would be allowed into the venue of the convention.

The committee has banned all presidential aspirants in the party from displaying their posters, mobilizing their supporters or campaigning at the convention.

He urged the party members to "run away" from act that may negatively affect the convention.

It would be recalled that, Alhaji Abubakar Atiku who dumped PDP for APC in 2014, returned to PDP on Sunday December 3, 2017. The party called on all its members still in the APC or other parties as well as others frustrated in the party to return. "Other PDP men and women are free to pursue whatever political aspirations they may have".
