Hornets Coach Steve Clifford Steps Away from Team to Address Health

Hornets Coach Steve Clifford Steps Away from Team to Address Health”

The Charlotte Hornets announced Wednesday that Steve Clifford would be away from the team "for the immediate future" for health-related reasons.

Silas received a text message at about 2 p.m. Monday saying Clifford was too sick to coach the team that evening, the Charlotte Observer reports.

There is no timetable for Clifford's return and longtime assistant Stephen Silas will be the interim head coach.

Clifford missed Monday's game against Orlando.

Silas joined the Hornets as a scout in 1999 when his father, Paul, was head coach. "There is definitely a little anxiety right now, because it is new, but once it starts, I know I have done it before".

Good thoughts to Steve Clifford, a delightful guy, an absolute grinder, and a coach always willing to talk the nitty-gritty stuff.

Out of respect for Clifford's privacy, the Hornets are withholding details about his situation and will not make any further comments at the current time.

The Hornets play a home game Wednesday against the National Basketball Association champion Golden State Warriors.
