Al-Qaeda and Taliban leaders killed in Afghanistan

Al-Qaeda and Taliban leaders killed in Afghanistan”

Speaking to reporters in Brussels, Stoltenberg said " I support the message from United States, from North Atlantic Treaty Organisation, which we convey together, and that is that we need to strengthen our military presence with more trainers, with more advice, strengthen our trainer system, advice mission in Afghanistan to break the stalemate, to enable the Afghan Forces to regain territory, to send a clear message to the Taliban and to the terrorists that they will not win on the battlefield.

US forces have obliterated top terror leaders in Afghanistan through recent strikes, and one video released by the Pentagon shows the lights being snuffed out of the Taliban's "Red Unit" commander.

The U.S. Forces-Afghanistan, which is part of NATO-led Resolute Support, twitted that Mullah Shah Wali leader of the Taliban's so-called Sara Qetta or "Red Unit" was recently killed in Helmand province, 555 km south of Kabul. Wali's job in particular was to supply the Taliban with arms in Helmand Province, a main base of operations for the Taliban.

"Both leaders are responsible for the deaths of many innocent Afghans, and their removal will both disrupt the terrorist operations of their respective organisations and improve overall security of the country", the USA command said in a statement. One of Wali's deputy commanders and three other insurgents were also killed in the strike.

The Taliban in Helmand Province are a responsible for the poppy cultivation and opium trade that funds Taliban anti-government agenda.

At the end of November, the Americans began a series of raids against heroin laboratories in Helmand.

Gen. Nicholson praised the Afghan National Defense and Security Forces' (ANDSF) contribution to the successful offensive against AQIS.

AQIS jihadists "tend to provide some of the expertise, the training on specialized weapons or IEDs [improvised explosive devices] or bomb-making", to the Taliban, said Nicholson, adding, "It's al-Qaeda Indian Subcontinent fighters who are the ones who are training a lot of the local Taliban, and in return for this the Taliban afford them sanctuary".
