Director Bryan Singer's replacement on Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody revealed

Director Bryan Singer's replacement on Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody revealed”

Shooting is due to resume next week.

After Bryan Singer was sacked from the set of Bohemian Rhapsody, the troubled Queen biopic that's taken an age to get here, a new director has stepped in to take on the reins of the production and get it across the finish line.

'Bryan Singer is no longer the director of Bohemian Rhapsody, ' Twentieth Century Fox said in a statement.

It was necessitated, of course, after Singer failed to return to the set in London following the Thanksgiving holiday break.

Fletcher most recently directed Eddie The Eagle and take the helm with just two weeks of filming left to complete.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the studio's decision to oust Singer came after a growing conflict between Mr. Robot star Rami Malek, who's playing Queen frontman Freddie Mercury, and the director, apparently over Singer's frequent absences from the set.

"I wanted nothing more than to be able to finish this project and help honor the legacy of Freddie Mercury and Queen, but Fox would not permit me to do so because I needed to temporarily put my health, and the health of my loved ones, first", Singer wrote.

Singer was originally hired to direct the film, but after several months of filming, he was let go by producers on Monday (11Dec17) after he reportedly failed to return to the set in the United Kingdom after America's Thanksgiving break.

"With fewer than three weeks to shoot remaining, I asked Fox for some time off so I could return to the U.S. to deal with pressing health matters concerning one of my parents", he said in a statement. Unfortunately, the studio was unwilling to accommodate me and terminated my services.

Filming has been taking place in the United Kingdom, with Ben Hardy, Joe Mazzello and Gwilym Lee starring as Queen's other members.

The film is now scheduled for release in December next year.
