Iraqi paramilitary group: US troops may become targets after US Jerusalem decision”

"Kashmiris across the valley will stage peaceful protests against the United States decision after the Friday prayers tomorrow", the separatists, under the banner of the Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL), said in a statement.

On Wednesday, Trump announced his decision - despite widespread global opposition - to recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital and move the US embassy to the flashpoint city.

A prominent Iraqi militia backed by Iran, Harakat Hezbollah al- Nujaba, said on Thursday US President Donald Trump's decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital could become a "legitimate reason" to attack US forces in Iraq.

There are more than 5,000 U.S. troops in Iraq, part of an global coalition providing air and ground support in Iraqi forces' fight against Islamic State militants. The armed group issued the threats as Sadr warned the people and leaders of the Arab world not to give up on the "occupied land" of Jerusalem.

On Thursday, the Iraqi government demanded the USA reverse its decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital. "Now I am alone, but if all armed factions agree to confront Israel, I am ready to be the first soldier, not the first commander", he said.

Iraq's top Shi'ite cleric Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani condemned the decision and called on the "Umma", or Islamic nation, to unite its efforts and reclaim Jerusalem.

The Shiite group, established in 2013 and supported by Iran's Revolutionary Guards, numbers around 1,500 fighters and is part of the Hashed al-Shaabi (Popular Mobilisation) auxiliary force that has fought alongside the army against the Islamic State group.

The PMF is government sanctioned and formally reports to Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi's office.

Nujaba's leader Akram al-Kaabi was earlier designated by the Department of the Treasury "for threatening the peace and stability of Iraq". "We caution against the risky repercussions of this decision on the stability of the region and the world", a government statement reads.

It is likely the Iraqi sentiment will now extend to neighboring countries who oppose Trump's decision.
