Trump aide Flynn planned to 'rip up' Russian Federation sanctions: Whistleblower”

As President Trump delivered his inaugural address, national security adviser Michael Flynn texted a former business partner that a private nuclear power project that would require lifting sanctions on Russian Federation was "good to go", a senior House Democrat said in a letter released Wednesday.

Rep. Elijah Cummings of Maryland, the top Democrat on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, made a letter public Wednesday that described the unidentified person's account.

Minutes into Trump's inauguration speech, Flynn also texted the ex-partner, who wanted to work with Russian Federation to build nuclear reactors across the Middle East, that the plan, threatened by Obama's sanctions, was "good to go".

"I believe the American people want Congress to hold President Trump and his administration accountable", Cummings wrote, "and they are exhausted of Republicans in Congress putting their heads in the sand when faced with credible allegations of grave abuses".

Alex Copson, the managing partner of ACU Strategic Partners, received texts from Flynn during Trump's inauguration January 20 saying the deal was "good to go", according to Cummings. Cummings wrote that an "authentic, credible, and reliable" source had brought him information regarding the retired Army lieutenant general.

Neither Gowdy nor Flynn's attorney, Robert Kelner, responded immediately to a request for comment.

Cummings said he was first contacted by the whistleblower last June, but suggested that his account had remained under wraps while Robert Mueller, the special counsel investigating Russian meddling, was investigating Flynn.

Today, I am writing to inform you about a whistleblower who has come forward with evidence that Lt.

Mr Cummings's letter goes on to relate that during the conversation, Mr Copson told the whistle-blower that he "just got a text message" from Flynn that the project was "good to go" and to contact their business colleagues to "let them know to put things in place".

In Flynn's agreement last week to plead guilty to one count of making false statements, prosecutors said that Flynn lied to Federal Bureau of Investigation agents about his discussions on sanctions against Russia with Russian ambassador Sergey Kislyak during the presidential transition.

Mr. Gowdy and Mr. Cummings have a long history of clashing publicly over politically charged investigations.

"This is going to make a lot of very wealthy people", the associate, Alex Copson, told the whistleblower on inauguration day, according to the whistleblower's account to the Democrats. But the whistleblower says he or she could not read the actual message.

Flynn was involved in the Middle Eastern nuclear project from spring 2015 to the end of 2016, according to recent financial disclosure filings, a period that overlapped with his role as a prominent adviser to Trump's campaign and transition.

"Mr. Copson explained that Gen. Flynn was making sure the sanctions would be ripped up as one of his first orders of business and this would allow money to start flowing into the project", Cummings said, quoting the witness. Mr. Cummings said that Mr. Gowdy should subpoena Mr. Flynn, Mr. Copson and four others to testify before the panel.
