Wind warnings issued for Donegal as storm Caroline heads for Ireland

A snow-ice warning has been issued for the whole of Ireland ahead of Storm Caroline.

The first warning will be valid from now until 11pm tonight.

There will be a wind warning in Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo, Sligo, Clare and Kerry from 3 am, Thursday morning to 8 pm Thursday evening. Northwest winds of 55-65km/h are expected to gust 110-110km/h, with the strongest winds in coastal areas and over high ground.

The status yellow warning is in effect from 4pm Thursday, and remains in place until the same time on Friday.

Temperatures are set to drop and it will be become bitterly cold over the next few days in the region.

There'll be rain and hail around tomorrow morning, and even some wintry showers later in the day.

It should clear up by Saturday but there is still a risk of wintry showers.

Maximum temperatures 2 to 5 Celsius, in fresh to strong northwesterly winds.

"Take extra care around pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists".

Friday is also expected to be bitterly cold, but with some sunshine.

"Any sudden change in weather conditions, be it snow, ice or heavy rainfall can have a serious impact on traffic across affected areas".
