Warner Bros. Planning to Restructure DC Films Division

Warner Bros. Planning to Restructure DC Films Division”

Berg is said to be segueing into a role as producer for Warner Bros., working alongside The Lego Movie and It producer Roy Lee.

Studio executives Jon Berg and Geoff Johns will no longer lead Warner's DC Comics films, a year after they were put in charge of the franchise.

Although studio executives hoped the struggling DC Extended Universe could turn a page with Justice League, the $300 million film proved polarizing with critics and fans, and has earned just $572 million worldwide. Picture Group President Toby Emmerich, this shift in personnel isn't entirely a reaction to the disappointing numbers from Justice League.

The decision for restructuring comes after Justice League has brought in just $572 million worldwide, making it the lowest grossing film in the DCEU by nearly $100 million.

John Berg will exit his role as one of the two leaders of Warner Bros.'s DC Films division following the poor box office performance and critical reception of Justice League, according to Variety.

As was previously reported, Berg spent the better part of a year on the set of director Zack Snyder's Justice League to keep an eye on increasing production costs. Johns is expected to remain as DC's chief creative officer, reporting to DC Entertainment President Diane Nelson.

"Justice League", released last month, was beset by misfortune.

Furthermore, sources close to Variety have said that Emmerich is "weighing the idea of further integrating DC's film operations" into the main movie arm at Warner Bros.

Meanwhile, as for the DC films themselves, it's safe to say we'll see Ben Affleck playing Batman at least once more in the planned Flashpoint movie, but Variety confirms the Internet scuttlebutt that Matt Reeves is looking to recast the role for his upcoming standalone film. Reportedly Snyder's vision for the villain Steppenwolf was recognized as "faulty" by studio executives, but only so much could be fixed during the reshoots overseen by Joss Whedon. Although it should be pointed out that Batman v Superman hit theaters mere weeks before Justice League began filming, so it's not like Warner Bros.re-hired Snyder after all the BvS backlash erupted-he was already deep into Justice League at that time.
