Intel announces new Pentium and Celeron chips with gigabit Wi-Fi”

It struck at the heart of some of the biggest complaints about Intel's chips, especially on mobile, like battery life and always-on connectivity.

Intel recently broke up its Pentium lineup into two branches: Pentium Gold and Pentium Silver.

For consumer use we don't see them having much of an appeal, as we'd hazard a guess that most people would like a decent powered laptop if they're going to shell out for one. But the Pentium family also has an older Gold CPU which runs on the higher-powered Kaby lake generation Core architecture; how Intel's engineers can work with such headaches is anyone's guess. This new Pentium Silver and Celeron chips, in comparison, will focus on delivering "connectivity at fantastic value". The chips also offer Gigabit Wi-Fi with 160MHz 2x2 802.11AC connectivity for faster streaming of media and web browsing. Somewhat related to downloading content fast, Intel is introducing a new display technology that will let you enjoy that content under any lighting condition.

The new processors also boast Local Adaptive Contrast Enhancement, which is created to improve image quality in daylight or high-glare environments, alongside hardware-enabled security.

Expect these new processors on laptops, 2-in-1s, all-in-one PCs, mini PCs and even desktops. Low-power desktop versions, of course.

Intel Celeron processors include "N4100" and "N4000" for mobile and "J4105" and "J4005" for desktop, the company said in a statement.

Today, Intel announced some new processors from its Pentium Silver and Celeron ranges, which are built on the company's Gemini Lake architecture.

The Intel Pentium Silver N5000 and J5005 are the new chips for mobile and desktop, respectively.
