Vince McMahon might be reviving the XFL

Vince McMahon might be reviving the XFL”

Low TV ratings and bad publicity forced WWE CEO Vince McMahon to end his professional football venture in 2001 after just one season. The league ceased operations entirely in May 2001. "Mr. McMahon has nothing further to announce at this time".

And say what you want about McMahon, the WWE and the prospect of football league potentially even more unsafe than the NFL, but the return of the XFL would be fascinating, if nothing else. McMahon later called the league a "colossal failure".

There has been unsubstantiated talk about the XFL making a return for a short while now, but Brad Shepard reported late Friday night that WWE chairman Vince McMahon is so deep into considerations about reforming the league that there's even a potential announcement date - January 25, 2018. A documentary that debuted earlier this year regarding the long-defunct league ended with WWE owner Vince McMahon and former NBC Sports chairman Dick Ebersol musing about a revival.

"I don't know what it would be", McMahon said.

It is unknown the exact reason why Vince McMahon would have started up Alpha Entertainment, but some believe it has to do with their shareholders who might not like the idea of WWE money going to fund another football league. "I don't know if it's gonna be another XFL or what it may be or how different I would make it".

Currently, there's a disconnect of sorts between what the National Football League gives fans and what the fans want (and what the players want to do). The wrestling company neither confirmed nor denied that McMahon actually was starting a new football league, but it sure seems as if he's thinking about it, at the very least.

WWE has even filed a "He Hate Me" trademark, which was the nickname of XFL star Rod Smart during the season.
