Iliza Shlesinger sued for turning away men at women-only comedy show

Iliza Shlesinger sued for turning away men at women-only comedy show”

The plaintiff said he and his friend had purchased tickets for the event held at Largo at the Coronet in Los Angeles.

After grabbing food and returning for the show, St. George alleges the same employee they had spoken to earlier told them the theater decided only women would be admitted and they would be refunded the price of their tickets.

The divide between men and women in the entertainment industry continues to grow with the latest news out of Hollywood that popular female comedian Iliza Schlesinger is being sued for allegedly banning men from at least one of her comedy shows.

Again, it was because the duo are men, according to the lawsuit.

Shlesinger "denied consumers the equal accommodations, advantages, facilities privileges and services they were entitled to" by denying St. George and his friend exclusively because their gender, the lawsuit argues.

He says the night "can best be described as akin to the Montgomery City Lines bus company in Montgomery, Alabama circa 1955".

It should not shock you, then, that Rava begins his 14-page complaint by quoting George Orwell's Animal Farm, "All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others". It also called the women-only show a sign of Shlesinger's "War On Men".

He also argued the decision to turn away St. George and his friend violates the Unruh Civil Rights Act and California's business and professions code.

Variety also reports that George, unsurprisingly, has filed multiple "ladies nights" cases in the past.

St. George is seeking unspecified damages as well as an injunction barring defendants, including Shlesinger and the venue, from engaging in unequal treatment of consumers based on sex. This setup, which leaves no room for interpretation in the title, is being called "repugnant" and "discriminatory" by St. George, who added that it "sets back sex equality hundreds of years".
