Passings: Rick Hall, Founder of Muscle Shoal's FAME Studio (1932 - 2018)”

Muscle Shoals" "Swampers", the studio's second house rhythm section who were immortalized in Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Sweet Home Alabama, ' would leave Fame to form their own studio in 1969, but the ensuing decade would see Hall inking a deal with Capitol Records to distribute Fame Records, as well as working with producer Mike Curb, who brought future teen idols the Osmonds and their teenaged sister, Marie, to the studio to record.

A pioneering producer of Alabama's Muscle Shoals sound and founder of FAME Recording Studios, Rick Hall is dead at the age of 85.

Hall and Sherrill set up the Florence Alabama Music Enterprises (FAME) publishing company in 1959 but Sherrill left the partnership the next year. "His death is a huge loss to those of us who knew him and those who didn't".

Hall, a producer, music publisher, songwriter and author, was a key figure in creating the Muscle Shoals sound during the 1960s in north Alabama.

Added award-winning instrumentalist and songwriter, Mac McAnally, also on Twitter, "The music world changed today with the passing of the great Rick Hall". From there, his national success continued with Tommy Rowe's "Everybody", the Tams' "What Kind of a Fool Do You Think I Am?", Jimmy Hughes' "Steal Away", Joe Simon's "Let's Do It Over" and Joe Tex's "Hold What You've Got". Then, in 1966, he assisted in licensing Percy Sledge's "When a Man Loves a Woman" to Atlantic Records. He founded FAME in the 1950s, and worked with soul and rhythm and blues artists like Aretha Franklin, Etta James, Otis Redding and Wilson Pickett.

Numerous greatest session musicians of the 1960s and '70s worked under Hall's direction at FAME, including David Briggs, Norbert Putnam, Jerry Carrigan, Donnie Fritts, Jimmy Johnson, Spooner Oldham, David Hood, Barry Beckett, Roger Hawkins and Duane Allman. He was also instrumental in packaging and taking the group Shenandoah to the top of the country charts in the 1980s.

Funeral arrangements are pending.
