Two senior executives suspended at Vice amid sexual harassment allegations”

Vice Media released a memo this morning announcing that two of the company's top executives were being suspended over widespread allegations of sexual harassment.

The two men placed on leave are President Andrew Creighton and Chief Digital Officer Mike Germano, who were both named in New York Times reporter Emily Steel's bombshell report last month exploring Vice Media's alleged toxic workplace culture for women.

Allegations against Germano will be reviewed by an external investigator, Chief Operating Officer Sarah Broderick said in an email to staff.

"It is a new year".

One 2016 settlement involved Creighton, then a vice president at the company, who paid $135,000 to a former employee who alleged that she was sacked for rejecting a sexual relationship with him. Creighton has been put on leave until that time. According to Broderick, Germano will be investigated by the company's Human Resources department-a process he's said to have "encouraged"-and Creighton will be investigated by the company's board of directors who will make a recommendation to senior management at the company's January 11 board meeting".

Germano responded to the Times that a statement that says "I do not believe that these allegations reflect the company's culture - or the way we treat each other" and continues, "With regards to the incident with Ms. Schaefer, I agreed at the time it was inappropriate, I apologized, and it was resolved with the help of HR". Day-to-day operations of Carrot will continue to be led by Carrot president Adam Katzenback. "And ultimately we let far too many people down".

In her memo Tuesday, Broderick reiterated Vice's goal to pay men and women comparably by the end of the year and to have equal representation of men and women at every level of the organization by 2020.

The December Times's investigative piece uncovered hundreds of current and former employees alleging a prevalent environment of harassment toward women, along with several past settlements paid due to sexual harassment and defamation that occurred at Vice.
