We definitely can win in South Africa, says Virat Kohli

We definitely can win in South Africa, says Virat Kohli”

The 29-year-old in a press conference said, "We are looking forward to this period of playing away from home".

Spin legend Bishen Singh Bedi believes Indian skipper Virat Kohli is yet to face real competition and the upcoming tough tour of South Africa will test his batting as well as captaincy skills.

It could even be argued that De Villiers contributed to South Africa's downfall in the Test matches which followed a one-day series dominated by his dazzling batting.

"Our best result here has been a drawn series in 2010-11 but I feel the kind of bowling attack we have now and the balance we have in the side, we definitely can win here".

The Proteas will assemble in Cape Town on January 2 to begin preparations for the first Test of the three-match series.

Bedi, at the sidelines of a media event, praised badminton star PV Sindhu for her continued success against top players at the world level and dared Kohli to emulate that in cricket.

"If we didn't have that mindset, there would be no point getting on to the flight to come here", Kohli told reporters. After Morris came through that session he was confirmed in a 15-man squad for the first Test against India, which starts on January 5, with Duanne Olivier dropping out.

South Africa squad: Faf du Plessis (capt), Hashim Amla, Temba Bavuma, Quinton de Kock, Theunis de Bruyn, AB de Villiers, Dean Elgar, Keshav Maharaj, Aiden Markram, Morne Morkel, Chris Morris, Andile Phehlukwayo, Vernon Philander, Kagiso Rabada, Dale Steyn.

De Villiers has played 17 Tests against India and his average of 40.10 against them is modest compared to his career average of 50.47. We have convinced ourselves that it's going to be much quicker and much bouncier than back home and you are going to get balls that may surprise you every now and then. We are under no illusions but we are ready for it.

"Last time we were here there was a lot of talk about our batsmen being bounced out but we stood up rather nicely".
