Abbas slams Israeli Likud decision to annex settlements in West Bank”

The draft revealed that 50 years after occupying the West Bank and Jerusalem, free-building of settlements must be permitted in addition to imposing full sovereignty and applying Israeli laws.

The pronouncement comes after Trump chose earlier this year to withdraw the United States from a global climate pact and to decertify the Iran nuclear deal, forcing Congress to determine whether to hit Tehran with new sanctions.

The US was the only country in the 14 member body to vote against the measure. Hamas Spokesman Fawzi Barhoum also panned the Likud Central Committee's vote, describing it as a part of "a policy of aggression against Palestinian rights".

Trump's December 6 announcement regarding the disputed city deeply angered the Palestinians and led to unrest.

The move "would lead us into wars that will never end", Abbas said.

The Palestinian government has recalled its United States ambassador following US President Donald Trump's controversial decision of recognising Jerusalem as the capital of Israel a few weeks ago.

The aides said, however, that Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and other State Department officials were closely involved in the deliberations.

About 600,000 Israelis now live in over 230 settlements built on Palestinian territories, which Israel has occupied since the 1967 Six-Day War.

"Just now we ensured that Jerusalem will be united forever".

"As I said in December, we won't forget the Jerusalem vote", Haley, U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, said.

"Those questions are up to the parties involved", Trump said.

Many Palestinians do not have Israeli citizenship, holding only permanent resident status in the city, which can be withdrawn any time for different reasons. A slew of them, including former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee and Robert Jeffress, senior pastor at First Baptist megachurch in Dallas, released statements of praise on Wednesday.

The move is primarily contested because, as Abbas said, it is evidence of the Trump administration's support for Israel in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. While numerous changes Trump has initiated toward Israel and Palestine have brought with them heavy support from the American Jewish population, a proposal to move the capital to Jerusalem does not. Christopher Coons, D-Del., a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

The backlash from other Middle East nations mounted Tuesday. They emphasized that the move will not fundamentally change other aspects of US policy. "To that end, tomorrow night, we are having a reception for the countries who chose not to oppose the USA position".

But whether this confrontation does anything except for unnecessarily antagonizing Iran, and the entire Arab community is yet to be seen. The president also noted that he plans to make "important" decisions in 2018, which will hold Israel accountable for its crimes against the Palestinians. One administration official, speaking on condition of anonymity, acknowledged that the Palestinians would likely threaten to reject peace talks.
