Pulse nightclub shooter's wife was aware of plot - and did nothing”

Noor Salman, the wife of the Pulse nightclub shooter who killed 49 people in 2016, told authorities that she knew about her husband's planned attack in advance.

The wife of Orlando mass shooter Omar Mateen, who gunned down 49 people and wounded more than 50 others at the Pulse nightclub in 2016, knew about his plans before the act - and did nothing. "I knew this because of the way he left and took the gun and backpack with ammunition", Salman reportedly said in a statement.

"I knew when he left the house he was going to Orlando to attack the Pulse nightclub", Salman said in the released statement obtained by the Orlando Sentinel.

The night before the attack, he left the house and looked "pumped up", she wrote in the statement, adding he told her, "This is the one day".

The hearing was closed to the media, but News 6 learned that the hearing was to determine if Dr. Bruce Frumkin will be allowed to be called as a witness for the defense.

"This was the time that he was going to do something bad", she said.

Salman is facing charges of aiding a terrorist organisation and obstruction of justice at her trial to be held in March.

Salman's lawyers have always questioned the validity of her statements saying they came after 16 plus hours of questioning.

On the night before one of the most devastating mass shootings in United States history, Salman said her husband loaded up on firearms and ammunition.

"I was in denial and I could not believe that the father of my child was goign to hurt other people".

She also saw him looking at a photo of the club online on June 10, agents said. The couple, with their young son in the vehicle, drove around Pulse a week before the shooting. That is in conflict with her signed statement to the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

"I'm very sorry I lied to the Federal Bureau of Investigation", she said.

Mateen also went to a shooting range "a lot" and spent a significant amount of money on clothes and gifts for her and her son in the days leading up to the shooting, Salman said. He added his wife as a beneficiary to his checking and savings accounts about two weeks before the shootings "in case something happened to him".

Salman said Mateen became angry when she asked him about the rifle and he told her "not to say anything to anybody", she said.
