NASA Releases Stunning Pictures Of Jupiter”

The Juno spacecraft controlled by NASA, has just finished its 10th round over the massive planet Jupiter, after orbiting it for a bit long than a year and half.

The image was taken on December 16, 2017 from almost 8,300 miles above Jupiter's clouds, and processed, or edited, by Gerald Eichstädt and Seán Doran.

The space agency posted the image on 5 January, showcasing spectacular Jovian clouds swirling over the gas giant's northern hemisphere.

But two citizen scientists, Gerald Eichstädt and Seán Doran, have enhanced the images by manipulating the color and contrast.

The Juno spacecraft was launched to unlock Jupiter's secrets to improve the understanding of not only the solar system's origins, but the huge planet's as well. "We've had a number of spacecraft that have flown past Jupiter and taken pictures, taken movies, but they have always been in the equatorial plane and so this mission is the first one that we really get up over the Polar Regions". The goal of the billion dollar mission is to teach those back on Earth about the unknowns of the largest planet in our solar system. The mythical god Jupiter drew a veil of clouds around himself to hide his mischief, and his wife - the goddess Juno - was able to peer through the clouds and reveal Jupiter's true nature.

The intricate patterns on Jupiter's surface are real and show the turbulent, ever-changing surface of Jupiter's atmosphere, marbled with multi-layered cloud systems. More specifically, it's sought to better understand things like how much water is in its atmosphere and how its magnetosphere functions, according to NASA. Juno will orbit the planet for 20 months, and de-orbit into the planet in February 2018.
