Kennedy, Emanuel Exchange Barbs Over Plans for Chicago

Kennedy, Emanuel Exchange Barbs Over Plans for Chicago”

Kennedy has come up with a plan to curb violence in the city and is now accusing Mayor Rahm Emanuel of attempting to force blacks out of Chicago.

Earlier this week, Kennedy had accused Emanuel of leading a "strategic gentrification plan", with the goal of making the city "whiter" and wealthier.

Kennedy continued with, "I believe that black people are being pushed out of Chicago intentionally by a strategy that involves disinvestment in communities being implemented by the city administration". Where are the ideas? He suggested when he's done with his stay at the Quincy Vets Home he ought to bring his sleeping bag up to the northwest side and resume construction of a state veterans home there.

Kennedy also fired back at Emanuel's criticisms, saying that he does have solutions for what he believes are the structural problems plaguing Chicago. "I hope nobody ever describes any of my ideas that way".

Kennedy provided no evidence of the mayor's alleged racist scheming.

- Chicago's African-American population has been falling for 40 years, from more than 1.2 million in the 1980s to about 790,000 now.

"We're cutting off resources to push people of color out of our city and, perhaps, out of the way of economic development", Kennedy said.

Census data released a year ago showed the number of black residents declining to 793,852, about 29.3 percent of the city's population.

The Tribune reported there has been a decline in black residence since 2000. Kennedy and nephew of former President John F. Kennedy, said during a news conference in Chicago that minorities are being given no other choice but to move out of the city because of a greater plan to make it "richer and whiter", the Washington Times reported. "That's a longer discussion that takes longer than just standing here and gets snippet and cut up later when it gets produced".
