Tech's Edmunds brothers declare for NFL Draft

Virginia Tech will have more holes to fill on defense in 2018 after Terrell and Tremaine Edmunds announced Wednesday that they will declare for the NFL Draft. "These last three seasons were great and I will always have lifelong memories there". "Thank you HokieNation and all of my supporters!"

Edmunds' brother, Terrell, will also enter the draft. The trio played together in college one year in 2015, often lining up next to one another on the Hokies' kickoff coverage team.

The family is familiar with the NFL. Older brother Trey Edmunds, who played for Virginia Tech from 2012-15 before transferring to Maryland in 2016, now plays for the New Orleans Saints.

Their father, Ferrell Edmunds, was a third-round pick by the Miami Dolphins in 1988, playing seven seasons for the Dolphins and Seahawks and making two Pro Bowl rosters.

The Edmunds' early departure is another offseason blow for a defense that loses senior starters in linebacker Andrew Motuapuaka and cornerbacks Brandon Facyson and Greg Stroman.

Tremaine, a true junior previous year, turned in an All-American season, finishing as a finalist for the Butkus Award, which is given to the nation's top linebacker. The 6-foot-5, 250-pound linebacker has started every game for Virginia Tech in 2016 and 2017. He is ranked as the No. 64 overall prospect in the draft by NFLDraftScout.com, and is ranked No. 4 among outside linebackers. For his part, the 6-foot-2, 210-pound Terrell is an aces cover man who projects to best fit in a zone scheme. Elder brother Terrell departs after a redshirt-junior season in which he was named to the third team All-ACC after compiling 59 tackles and two interceptions before missing the final three games of the season due to shoulder surgery.

Tech may still be awaiting word from cornerback Adonis Alexander regarding a possible decision to return for his senior season or not. "After talking with my family, I have chose to forgo my senior year and declare for the 2018 National Football League draft".
