MSNBC "Hardball" host Chris Matthews joked about giving Hillary Clinton a "Bill Cosby pill" before interviewing her in footage from January 2016 obtained by the Cut.

'I realize that's no excuse. The footage kicks off with Matthews asking: "Can I have some of the queen's waters? Precious waters?" Matthews asked.

"Where's that Bill Cosby pill I brought with me?" he adds, laughing.

Reps for Clinton didn't immediately respond to a request for comment from TheWrap. "Quit. Now", tweeted Tim Hogan, a former Clinton campaign spokesperson. "Hardball" was hosted on CNBC at the time. Before embarking on a career in television, he cut his teeth on Capitol Hill, serving as an aide to former Speaker of the House Tip O'Neill.

The website also listed some of Matthews' controversial remarks about Clinton, some of which were made on air.

She has a "cackle, ' a 'scolding manner in terms of her public speaking, ' and some men believed her voice is like 'fingernails on a blackboard" said Matthews over the years.

He apologized in 2008 after he said that Clinton became a USA senator and a leading presidential candidate only because "her husband messed around". She didn't win there on her merit'.
