Europe's Ryder hopefuls face Asia in EurAsia

Europe's Ryder hopefuls face Asia in EurAsia”

With a youthful and dynamic team at his disposal, Atwal believes his team can match-up to anyone on any given day and is looking forward to an exciting contest at the Glenmarie Golf and Country Club.

They join Swedes Henrik Stenson (world No 9) and Alex Noren (19); England's Paul Casey (14), Tyrrell Hatton (17), Tommy Fleetwood (18), Matthew Fitzpatrick (29) and Ross Fisher (31); Spain's Rafa Cabrera Bello (20); Belgium's Thomas Pieters (38) and Austria's Bernd Wiesberger (42) in a side that features several likely members of Bjorn's 2018 Ryder Cup team.

Experienced Englishman Paul Casey and France's Alex Levy are Bjorn's two wildcard picks against an Asian side led by three-time European Tour victor Arjun Atwal of India.

"I've prepared very well this time, I've been playing well at this golf course and practice here a lot".

Bjorn has six players with Ryder Cup experience on his roster in Malaysia and he believes this will be a good dress-rehearsal for him and many of his team.

"I'm really enjoying it (captaincy)". I am sure they will be, though. He probably had a harder time talking to me than I did to him.

"I think it's a real test of golf, because in fourballs and singles, it's kind of still like stroke play because you're playing your own ball, whereas in foursomes, it's proper golf because you're playing for your partner". Obviously I love playing the majors and big tournaments but sometimes I can get a bit uninterested.

Arjun Atwal turned to close friend Tiger Woods for advice after being appointed captain of Team Asia for the upcoming third edition of the EurAsia Cup.

Europe's golfers will be hoping to impress Ryder Cup captain Thomas Bjorn when the EurAsia Cup starts in Malaysia early tomorrow morning.

Dunne is now well-placed in the Ryder Cup standings at seventh in the European points list and sixth in the world points list but there is still a long way to go before the team is finalised.

"I really think it will really help to hopefully have a few more events like this and grow the game even more". This is no such thing as an underdog in match play golf. "You can be underdogs on paper, but once the matches start, anything can happen".

Now back in the European team fold for the first time in ten years at this week's EurAsia Cup, Casey has reflected on his omission back in 2010 and said he holds no grudges against the eight-time European Tour Order of Merit victor.
