Former Hostage of Taliban-Linked Group Arrested in Canada for Sex Crimes”

A Canadian national who was held hostage by Afghan Taliban and was rescued by Pakistan Army in October was arrested in his home country on 15 charges including sexual assault, illegal confinement and issuing death threats. He is scheduled to appear in court on January 3.

In an interview with ABC News, Coleman, who is from Stewartstown, Pa., recalled that guards dragged her husband from their cell, and one of them threw her on the ground, shouting, "I will kill you, I will kill you" before assaulting her.

After the couple was freed with their three children born in captivity, Caitlin Coleman Boyle, 31, recounted how she was beaten and raped by their Taliban-linked Haqqani captors.

There is a publication ban in place, which prevents publication of any information that could identify the alleged victim (s) or witnesses. Boyle's attorney told CNN the charges were accurate as reported.

His wife - who was pregnant when she and Boyle were kidnapped while hiking in Afghanistan in 2012 - said the trauma they faced attributed to his alleged crimes.

Instead, Boyle was kept as an infidel hostage for years - and had more kids during captivity.

Boyle appeared in court New Year's Day in Ottawa and remains in police custody, according to the report.

"We look forward to receiving the evidence and defending him against these charges", Granger told reporters.

Boyle's lawyer Eric Granger has pleaded his client's total and absolute innocence. "He has no criminal record and has never been in trouble with the police", Mr Greenspon said in an e-mailed statement.

A sign attached to the door of the Boyle apartment in Ottawa said family members would not be speaking to the media and requested privacy.

They were freed by Pakistani forces, who used United States intelligence to plan the mission, and their release garnered worldwide attention. The Pakistanis caught the Haqqani fighters at some point after they had moved with their captives across the border from Afghanistan.

After his dramatic release and return to Canada, the 34-year-old allegedly went on a crime spree between October 14 and December 30 that has resulted in his arrest, The Toronto Star reported. She noted that she and their children were "healthy and holding up as well as we can".

"The Prime Minister did meet with the Boyles earlier this week, and like all Canadians, we are relieved that their bad ordeal is over and they are back home safely", a statement from the prime minister's office said at the time.
