Heavy rainfall expected for Limerick as Met Eireann issues weather warning”

A WEATHER WARNING is in place as heavy rains are set to pour in nine counties - with snow expected to fall next week.

Met Éireann has updated its earlier rainfall warning to include the counties of Galway, Mayo, Clare, Limerick, Tipperary and Waterford. A warning - which was issued this morning - has been valid since 11:00am and will remain in place until 11:00am tomorrow (Saturday, January 13).

A status yellow warning has been issued, as forecasts predict between 25 to 40 mm of rain in the 24 hour period from noon on Friday to noon on Saturday with flooding in places.

It's going to affect most of the country but will be heaviest in the north and west.

Falls of 30 to 50mm are expected and spot flooding is likely.

"It will still be rather windy in fresh and gusty southeast winds".

The rain will tend to become confined to eastern areas later in the day, but rather persistent here with local spot flooding and fresh onshore winds. There will be low cloud and mist in parts too.

Temperatures will range between 7 and 10 degrees.

There will be a wet start on Saturday across much of Ulster and Leinster, with further outbreaks of rain. "Frost free with lowest temperatures ranging from 5C to 8C". Munster and Connacht will be drier and brighter.

The folks at Met Éireann have said that we can expect much colder weather next week with wind and wintry showers "increasingly more likely".

"Heaviest rainfall between noon and midnight today".

The wintry showers will mainly hit the north and west of the country, but all areas are at risk of thunderstorms.

There will be frost and ice also in some parts, but mainly for sheltered areas.
