Lenovo's Smart Display with Google Assistant takes on the Amazon Echo Show

Lenovo's Smart Display with Google Assistant takes on the Amazon Echo Show”

The Amazon Echo Show, which features a 7-inch display, costs $229/£199.

You can also control other smart home devices that support Google Assistant with your voice.

Google at CES 2018 has announced that its voice-controlled virtual assistant will now be available with a display similar to the Amazon Echo Show.

These smart screens will have YouTube. Both models feature Bluetooth and WiFi connectivity as well as a wide-angle front-facing 5MP camera.

Google also announced that new products from Abode, Crestron, Gourmia, Insteon, Kohler and Yonomi will offer the Siri rival.

Google also announced that its digital assistant will be rolling out to Android Auto in the USA this week.

JBL, Lenovo, LG and Sony have all committed to make smart screens, with the Lenovo Smart Display and JBL LinkView among those on display at CES. So, you can say "Hey Google" anytime and it will listen to your command.

LG's entry into the Google Assistant smart display arena is the ThinQ Google Assistant Touch Speaker and we don't know much about it in terms of pricing and availability. For example, during our demo, saying "Hey, Google".

Starting with Google Assistant, the tech firm revealed that the voice tool was available on over 400 million devices. Now, it remains to be seen what Amazon comes up with as an answer.

Starting this week, Google Assistant is coming to Android Auto, the system for connecting select Android phones up to certain vehicle infotainment systems.

"Starting this week in the U.S., the Assistant is coming to Android Auto", Google revealed. "Today, we're announcing that the Assistant is coming to smart displays". New smart speaker partners include Bang & Olufsen, Braven, iHome, JBL, Jensen, LG, Klipsch, Knit Audio, Memorex and SōLIS. Covering up the camera is as simple as flipping a hardware switch on the side of the device, so you don't need to worry that Google (or worse, some random hacker) is spying on you while you sleep. Lenovo teamed up with Google on this and although it doesn't have the sexiest of names, it has all the hallmarks of a "Made by Google" device, which is great. In doing so, Google is attempting to catch up to Amazon, whose artificial intelligence-powered Echo dominates the market for smart speakers.

Amazon is also making announcements with a range of device makers. LG's new TVs will have Google Assistant inside, and GE has built a way to ask either Alexa or Google Assistant to preheat an oven or turn on the dishwasher. And it is exactly what Google needs to do to establish itself as one of two viable digital assistant technologies.
