Pistons roll past Nets in Brooklyn 114-80

Pistons roll past Nets in Brooklyn 114-80”

Detroit Pistons coach Stan Van Gundy lauds the growth of Andre Drummond in the young center's sixth season.

And a bit unbelievable after the Nets had each of their previous five games decided by three points or fewer, the longest such streak of close contests in the National Basketball Association since the 2012-13 season. "We have to do our job".

"We came out here and laid an egg", he added. That's inexcusable. It's unacceptable.

In particular, Drummond could be kryptonite to the staple of every National Basketball Association team's offense, the pick and roll. "When Dre does it - we did it vs. Houston, also, even when he wasn't playing - when our bigs are up and aggressive and locked in defensively, we're a really good team". "We're going to look to flush it and get back to business". Andre Drummond had missed two of three games with a rib contusion before picking up 16 points and 14 rebounds in Monday's 112-109 loss at New Orleans.

Dwight Buycks added 17 for the Pistons as well.

"They were just the aggressor, more physical", admitted Nets sharpshooter Allen Crabbe, who shook off a sore shin to score a team-high 20 points during Brooklyn's third consecutive loss. Detroit has struggled with consistency all season, but appear much improved over past year.

And that's where the good news ends.

Drummond became the first player with at least 20 points, 20 rebounds, and five assists through three quarters since Kevin Garnett in 2004. The Nets shot 36.5 percent from the field and ended up giving up 23 points on 20 turnovers. That being said, Kenny Atkinson and his staff should throw this tape out and move onto the next game. "We got off to a decent start and then they just dominated us the rest of the way in every phase of the game - and there's really not a lot to say much more than that". So when those guys are up and they're playing it that way, it makes it so much easier for us and it makes it so much more hard for the guards.

"Spencer does a great job of finding his teammates and getting them the ball in the right spots", Drummond said.

Spencer Dinwiddie, originally drafted by the Pistons, failed to have a revenge game, registering just two points on 1-of-5 shooting. He finished with 15 points and seven rebounds on the night.

Pistons forward Tobias Harris reacts after a 3-point basket during the second half of the Pistons' 108-101 win on Saturday, Jan. 6, 2018, at Little Caesars Arena. As a team, the Pistons shot 44 percent from the field and eight of 27 from the three-point line but in a close contest, it was the Pelicans who blinked first as they went on a decisive 13-2 run early in the fourth quarter.
