Power Outage Brings CES to a Standstill”

The CES 2018 event experienced a blackout Wednesday, putting one of the world's largest displays of tech and electronic devices at a standstill for almost two hours.

The digital economy's big annual trade show, suffered a brief, disruptive plunge into darkness on Wednesday because of a power outage the show's organizers blamed on a glitch caused by heavy rains the day before in usually sunny Nevada.

A partial blackout is seen during the 2018 CES in Las Vegas, Nevada, U.S. January 10, 2018 in this picture obtained from social media.

Initial reports about the power outage began appearing on Twitter around 11:14 a.m. PT, but the lights turned back on sometime around 1:00 p.m. PT.

"A preliminary assessment indicates that condensation from heavy rainfall caused a flashover on one of the facility's transformers", a public statement from the Las Vegas Convention Center read.

The Consumer Technology Association, which runs CES, tweeted that it was an "isolated power outage". "We are grateful to NV Energy for their swift assistance, to our customers and their clients for their patience and to the staff for ensuring the safety and security of all attendees and exhibitors".

No matter what, the Energizer bunny just kept on going. Major brands that participated in this year's CES include Intel, Ford, LG, Samsung, and Sony. Device-maker Wiltronic Corporation continued to do demos using fully charged laptops, CNN Tech reported.

In fact, it was raining so hard that Google had to shut down its giant playground-ish booth for a whole day, which was located outdoors. Long lines formed at the convention center for cabs. Local flights were delayed and canceled, and floodwaters prompted several rescues. In this article, let's take a look at the roundup of what has been launched on CES 2018, Day 2.
