Ratner accuser asks court to drop libel suit

Melanie Kohler, a Hawaiian woman who accused Hollywood producer Brett Ratner of raping her past year, has filed a motion asking a judge to dismiss the libel suit.

A woman who accused Brett Ratner of rape claims he targeted her with a defamation lawsuit - and NOT his more famous accusers - in an attempt to "silence and intimidate" other women from coming forward with allegations against him.

The motion also argues that California's Anti-SLAPP law, which protects against frivolous lawsuits targeting people with limited financial resources, should be applied to the Hawaii complaint and lead to its dismissal.

Brett Ratner is singling out one of his accusers in court in an effort to silence other women from coming forward. this according to the woman he's suing for claiming he raped her.

Kohler's lawyers argued that Ratner's suit consisted of little more than "threadbare, conclusory allegations", which fail to meet the minimum requirements for a libel complaint.

In court documents, Kohler's attorneys argue that Ratner's claim that her Facebook post was "false, fabricated and fictional" and meant to harm his reputation "alleges zero facts suggesting why Ms. Kohler would have been motivated to lie about Mr. Ratner raping her".

Hours after The Times' article was published November 1, Kohler was sued in U.S. District Court in Hawaii. A week later, Kohler said on "Good Morning America" that she stands by her allegation.

"If Ratner does not want his relevant "bad acts" discovered by Kohler or made part of his public lawsuit, then the solution is not to launch baseless attacks against Kohler or her attorneys", he wrote.
